As a member of the design team, my role was to create the design components, write the style guides, and document the system. I was responsible for ensuring that the design system complies with the WCAG AA accessibility standards, which are critical in ensuring that everyone, including those with disabilities, can use Civica's digital products.
Civica Design System was a collaborative effort between a team of 5 members, including designers, developers, and product managers. The goal of the project was to create a robust design system that could support all Civica's digital products and help increase the efficiency and ease of use for both users and developers
One of the main challenges we faced during the project was balancing the need for consistency with the need for creativity. We wanted to ensure that the design system was consistent and recognizable, while still allowing room for creativity and innovation.
Another challenge was ensuring that the design system was accessible and compliant with the WCAG AA standards. This involved a lot of testing and iteration to ensure that all components were accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities.
The Civica Design System was a success and has received positive feedback from both the development team and the product managers. The design system has streamlined the design and development process, resulting in a more consistent user experience and faster development times.
The design system has also helped to promote accessibility, as all components are compliant with the WCAG AA standards, ensuring that everyone, including those with disabilities, can use Civica's digital products.
